What a brilliant game we had on Sunday as the Dads took on the Coaches!

First Half

The match started as a very cagey affair, with both teams struggling to judge the bobbly pitch. It was an even contest for the first 20 minutes before Coach Hilly was played through by Coach Tom. He beat the goalkeeper to the ball and lifted it over his head, only for Algis to come flying in with a goal-line clearance — and somehow break the goal in the process! A real comedy moment for the crowd.

The breakthrough came five minutes later after a nice passage of play. Coach Lewis saw his first effort saved, before the ball eventually fell to Coach Tyler, who flicked it back to Lewis. He made no mistake, rifling the ball into the top-left corner to make it 1-0 to the Coaches at half-time.

Second Half

In the second half, the game opened up. Coach Sam came close with a header from a Coach Jordan corner, before Coach Hilly hit the post. The rebound fell kindly to Coach Lewis, who finished with a diving header to make it 2-0.

The goals came quickly after that. Coach Tyler went on a great run from the middle to the left-hand side, knocked the ball past his dad, ran round him, and squared it to Coach Lewis, who finished nicely into the bottom-left corner for his hat-trick. 3-0.

Coach Liam then did well to pull the ball back to Coach Hilly. His first effort was blocked, but the second time round he made no mistake with his left foot, placing it into the bottom-left corner. 4-0.

The dads then produced a moment of real quality. A lovely move started with Algis at left-back before he played a neat one-two — only to be absolutely snapped by Coach Charlie! Safe to say, in a real game, that was a definite yellow card. Up stepped Jervel Foster, who made no mistake with the free-kick, firing it into the top-right stanchion. What a finish — arguably goal of the game. 4-1.

As the dads started to tire, the Coaches added two more. Coach Liam scored the fifth with the cheekiest of deflections, wrong-footing the goalkeeper, before a nice passage of play from Coach Hilly set Liam up again. His shot squeezed underneath the goalkeeper’s foot to make it 6-1.

The game finishes Coaches (6-1) Dads.

There were plenty of great performances from the dads, with standout displays from James Morris, Jammy Lloyd and Jervel Foster.
