This weekend’s game saw Newark Town Titans lock horns with Gedling Southbank in what turned out to be a thrilling contest between two talented young sides. Gedling came into the fixture riding high after a strong start to the season, while Newark Town were also full of belief, lifted by their victory the previous week and eager to build further momentum.

From the opening whistle, the match was evenly poised. Both teams showed plenty of energy, pressing hard off the ball and trying to make every possession count. It was clear early on that this was going to be a close battle, with neither side prepared to give much away.

The breakthrough arrived in spectacular fashion. Raff, full of confidence, stepped up to take a corner and cleverly whipped the ball in, catching everyone by surprise as it flew directly into the net. It was a moment of individual brilliance that lifted the Titans and gave them the upper hand.

Gedling, however, showed their resilience and were rewarded soon after with a stroke of fortune. A mix-up at the back for Newark Town resulted in an unfortunate own goal, bringing the visitors level and ensuring the contest remained finely balanced. The Titans responded well, pushing forward again, and Raff nearly restored the advantage with a free kick that just cleared the bar.

For much of the game, the two teams cancelled each other out. Both enjoyed spells of pressure, but with defences holding firm, it looked like the match might finish all square. That was until the final 10 minutes, when Newark Town produced the decisive moment. James P picked up the ball, drove forward with intent, beat his marker, and struck a shot low and hard. It crept under the goalkeeper’s dive and nestled in the bottom corner. Harley, who had been lively since coming off the bench, provided the key assist.

Gedling threw everything forward in search of a response, even rattling the crossbar in the dying moments, but the Titans showed great determination and composure to see the game through. It was a disciplined display that underlined the team’s growing confidence and ability to win tight matches.
