Match Report: Match Report: Newark Town Titans 5–0 Newark Town Cavaliers

After five weeks without competitive football, both Newark Town Titans and Newark Town Cavaliers returned to action with a touch of rust on show—but plenty of encouraging signs as well. The Titans came into the fixture as favourites, operating in a much stronger league, though the Cavaliers also boasted some very capable players of their own.

From the opening whistle, it was the Titans who set the tone. Dominance in possession and tempo quickly told, and the breakthrough came early. Aston opened the scoring by sliding in for a neat first-time finish from close range. The second followed shortly after, again from Aston, this time with a composed strike that clipped in off the post to make it 2–0.

The Titans continued to press, and some excellent work down the left flank from James P led to the third. James P slid the ball into Aston, who delivered a left-footed cross into the danger area, where Alfie timed his run perfectly to slide in and finish from close range. At 3–0, the Titans were in full control.

The fourth goal was the standout moment of the match and deservedly the goal of the game. Farley picked up the ball near the halfway line and embarked on a sensational solo run, jinking past three Cavaliers players—inside, outside, back inside again—twisting and turning his way into space before calmly finishing from the edge of the box.

Five minutes before half-time, Aston completed his hat-trick, poking a low finish underneath the goalkeeper to cap a dominant first-half display. The Titans were first to nearly every first and second ball and spent the majority of the half camped in the Cavaliers’ half.

The halftime break came at a good time for the Cavaliers, who were under sustained pressure. The Titans had further chances to extend their lead, with Raff going close from short range, Alfie nearly adding another, and James firing just over the bar.

The second half told a different story. It became a far more even and scrappy contest, with no goals scored. Cavaliers goalkeeper Isaac produced several excellent saves to keep the Titans at bay, while both teams put in strong challenges and competed well across the pitch. The scoreline remained unchanged, meaning a clean sheet for both sides in the second period.

Ultimately, the match served its purpose for both teams—a chance to shake off the cobwebs, get valuable minutes into the legs, and return to the rhythm of competitive football.
