Newark Town Titans 0–1 Southwell City Reds
*A performance full of pride, passion, and promise – cruelly decided at the death.*
Newark Town Titans produced an outstanding performance today but were left heartbroken after conceding a last‑minute goal, falling 1–0 to Southwell City Reds. It was an agonising sense of déjà vu, with Salford once again scoring late against the Titans – this time turning what could have been a deserved result into a narrow defeat.
Despite the scoreline, the Titans were exceptional. From the first whistle to the last, the lads battled all over the pitch, executing a bold *2‑2‑2 formation* that pushed our best players higher up the field and fully involved in the game. In truth, Newark were the better side and on another day would have been well clear, creating several excellent chances that just refused to hit the back of the net.
Defensive Excellence
*Harry (GK)* was once again superb, making a series of excellent saves to keep the Titans firmly in the contest. Never seize to amaze us great kid aswell thank you for beers 😊
At the heart of defence, *James* delivered a true captain’s performance. Solid, composed, and relentless, he played every single minute and led by example. His reading of the game was exceptional, clearing danger time and time again and even setting attacks in motion with quick, intelligent distribution. A man‑of‑the‑match display and everything you want from a captain.
Alongside him, *Steven* was outstanding. In the first half especially, he and James formed an impenetrable wall. Steven didn’t miss a tackle, intercepted superbly, stayed strong in every duel, and showed exactly the level of performance we’ve been waiting to see from him. Absolutely immense.
Midfield Work Rate and Quality
*Ashton* put in one of the hardest‑working performances you’ll see. His engine is second to none, and the fact he needed a brief spell off the pitch shows just how much ground he covered. His energy, pressing, and impact on the game were outstanding.
*Billy* delivered one of his best performances of the season. This was a mature, all‑action display: threading passes through the lines, making key tackles, covering intelligently, and even coming agonisingly close to scoring after hitting the post from a tight angle. Billy was everywhere today – a top performance.
Attacking Threat
Up front, *Aston* once again showed what he’s about. He battled tirelessly for the badge, pressed defenders, chased every loose ball, and consistently got into dangerous positions. He had chances, and on another day they go in and we’re celebrating a win. His effort this season – and today in particular – cannot be faulted.
*Farley* benefitted hugely from the return to a system designed to get the best out of him, and he repaid that faith in style. Electric throughout, he caused constant problems with his movement, shooting from range, and sharp reactions to loose balls. He tested the goalkeeper repeatedly and was a real threat every time he was involved. A brilliant performance and great to see him back to his best.
Substitutes’ Impact
*Alfie* made a huge impact in difficult circumstances, coming on, going off, and then returning again. Each time he stepped onto the pitch, he worked relentlessly, battled defenders, and put himself in the right positions to score. Keep doing that and the goals will come.
*Harley* brought organisation and leadership when introduced. Calm on the ball, disciplined off it, and vocal throughout – exactly why he’s part of this squad.
*Raff* delivered the performance we’ve been waiting for. Strong, intelligent, and committed, he dominated second balls, used his body well, played forward with purpose, and covered ground superbly. His round of applause at full time was fully deserved.
A special mention to *Will*, returning after a lengthy injury absence. It was fantastic to see him back on the pitch, eased in carefully and greeted with a great reception. His determination to get back has been immense, and he’s been sorely missed over recent weeks.
Togetherness On and Off the Pitch
A massive thank you to the *parents*, whose support was outstanding. Every cheer, clap, and word of encouragement lifted the lads and created a real sense of togetherness – exactly what this team is about.
The coaches could not be prouder. *Coach Nathan, **Coach Statham, and **Kayne* are all united in their pride for this group. The standards have now been set – and they must be met every single week.
Hold onto this performance, Titans. Keep these levels, keep this belief, and results will follow.
We now look ahead to next week’s Christmas party – well deserved after a performance full of heart, courage, and quality.
*Well done to everyone involved. A full match report with photos will be available on the website.*
