🏆 Match Report
Newark Town Titans vs Burton Joyce Green
Final Score: Newark Town Titans 2 – 7 Burton Joyce Green
It was a highly anticipated clash at the weekend as 2nd-placed Newark Town Titans hosted 5th-placed Burton Joyce Green — a fixture that’s always been competitive, with Burton Joyce historically coming out on top.
The Titans came into the game full of confidence after three weeks off, a solid training session on Wednesday, and plenty of pre-match preparation — including photos in their brand-new kit alongside the match sponsor. Spirits were high and tactics had been drilled. But from the very first whistle, it was clear the lads were in for a real battle.
The opening exchanges were evenly contested, but a key 50–50 challenge in the Titans’ half saw Burton Joyce’s winger break through and finish clinically to make it 1–0. Heads dipped momentarily and disaster struck when Will — who was having a strong game — went off with a buckle fracture to his wrist. Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Will for a speedy recovery.
James offered a lifeline before halftime, pulling one back with a well-taken goal to make it 1–1. However, the visitors quickly restored their lead before the break.
The second half started with Newark looking for a response another couple of goals for Burton Joyce.
Despite the setback, there were flashes of quality from the Titans. A clever through ball from Ashton set up Alfie, who rounded the keeper and slotted home to make it 4–2 at one stage, sparking brief hopes of a comeback. Unfortunately, Burton Joyce’s relentless pressure told, and the match ended 7–2. Titans couldn't handle the trickery of the burton Joyce winger who proved to be a menace all morning.
While the result was disappointing, there were still standout individual performances. Harry made several excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable, and Harley put in a brave, composed performance in defence — earning Man of the Match, voted for by the parents and management. Well done, Harley! 👏
🗣 Management’s Comments:
“We’re very disappointed. To be out-battled and out-worked hurts. Being beaten by a better team — we can accept that. But we need to take accountability and look at ourselves. Every player needs to ask, ‘Do I really want it?’ If the answer is yes, then it’s time to roll up our sleeves, work harder, and show it. We’ll hit training hard, rebuild our confidence, and be ready to bounce back next weekend against TibShelf Community — another strong side.”
Despite the defeat, Newark Town Titans remain 3rd in the league, with plenty still to play for. The lads know there’s work to be done — but with commitment, teamwork, and belief, the Titans will look to bounce back stronger than ever. 💪💙
