Match Report: Newark Town Titans v Keyworth Blacks (U10)

ree

Newark Town went into this one chasing their third win in a row against a very strong and physical Keyworth Blacks side.

The Titans started brightly, dominating the opening 15 minutes. Billy was at the heart of the play, getting on the ball and starting attacks, with the lads making great angles to receive passes. An early injury to Aston meant Ashton came on to replace him, and he made an immediate impact with tireless pressing.

Chances soon followed: Raff saw his free kick well saved, James caused problems down the right with some excellent play, and Alfie also tested the Keyworth keeper. The best opportunity of the half fell to Ashton, but his powerful strike was brilliantly stopped by the opposition goalkeeper.

At the other end, it was a busy day for the Titans’ defenders, who had to deal with wave after wave of attacks. Goalkeeper Harry was in top form, producing a string of crucial saves to keep Newark in the game during a long spell of pressure.

The flow of the game shifted after the substitutions around the 15-minute mark, and Keyworth began to get on top. Without Harry’s heroics, the Titans could have found themselves further behind. As half-time approached, it looked as though the visitors would go into the break in full control.

But then came a spark. Farley O produced a moment of brilliance, weaving through defenders before slotting a superb finish into the bottom corner – just like he’d been practising in the warm-up!

Despite Newark’s battling performance, the game finished with a deserved win for Keyworth, who were the stronger side overall on the day.

Managers’ Thoughts:

Nathan: “They were the better team, although I believe we could have been sharper. There were plenty of positives to take away, and I was happy with a lot of what I saw. Heads up lads – we go again next week.”

Lewis: “They’re a very good side, but so are we. We just need to believe in our ability. The coaching guidance we’re giving will sink in – it’s not a question of if, but when. I’m not worried; we go again Wednesday for another strong training session with myself and Kayne. The league starts next week, and we’re ready for a tough and competitive season in Division 2.”

Awards & Mentions

Harry D (GK) – picked up both Parents’ Player of the Match and Manager’s Player of the Match for his outstanding performance between the posts. Well done, class display!

Billy W – special mention for his influence in midfield. Every time he gets on the ball, the team looks stronger.

Tough game, great lessons, and plenty of positives as the Titans prepare for the new league season!
