Match Report – Lil Laydies v Newark Town Girls

Newark Town Girls – First Match Report

Newark Town Girls made a strong start in their opening match, pinning the opposition in their own half with determined pressing and great teamwork.

The defensive line of Etta, Eimear, Isobel and Freya stood firm throughout, keeping the Lil Laydies’ attacks at bay. It was also the first appearance with the team for Maddy, Freya, Isobel and Eden, who all slotted in well and added fresh energy.

With plenty of substitutions, the girls kept the tempo high, making sure rested legs were always ready to push forward. Millie and Faith impressed with effective kick-ins, while relentless pressing across the pitch meant Lil Laydies found it hard to build momentum.

Newark’s breakthrough came when Devon converted from a corner, giving her side the lead. At the other end, Myla produced several superb saves, including an outstanding double stop, to keep Newark ahead. When Angel dropped deeper to shore up midfield, it allowed Millie to push higher up the pitch and add extra attacking threat.

Despite Newark’s dominance, a scrappy moment in their own half allowed Lil Laydies to grab an equaliser, taking the game to penalties.

In the shootout, Newark held their nerve, winning 4–2 thanks to cool finishes from Eva, Angel, Millie and Devon, with Myla again proving herself a brilliant shot-stopper.

The standout performer, Etta, was named Player of the Match for her composure and strong defensive play.

A fantastic first outing for Newark Town Girls LFF – full of effort, teamwork, and plenty of promise for the season ahead.
