Match Report – Newark Town Titans v Newark Brazil Santos
The Titans started slowly in this contest, conceding a couple of early chances that either went wide or were well saved by our goalkeeper, Harry D. Unfortunately, we fell behind when a deflected effort found its way into the net – a slice of bad luck, but one Brazil probably deserved at that stage.
That goal seemed to wake us up. James P went close with a strike cleared off the line after some brilliant pressing and link-up play from Alfie T. James then had another great chance inside the box, but lifted his shot over from seven yards out. Not long after, Alfie struck the post with a powerful effort as we pushed for an equaliser.
The introduction of substitutes Harley, Raff, Alfie, and Farley gave us fresh energy and a real positive impact heading into the second half.
After the restart, we looked bright and created chances that suggested a goal was coming. Unfortunately, it never arrived, and Brazil were ruthless on the counter-attack, doubling their lead.
We switched formation to play with two strikers, and although we came close again, it wasn’t enough to dent Newark Brazil’s strong performance.
Starting XI: Harry, Steven, Will, Billy, Ashton, James, Aston
Substitutes: Farley, Raff, Harley, Alfie
Standout Performances:
Ashton M – Parents’ Player of the Match
Harry D – Manager’s Player of the Match (some superb saves and composure in goal)
Will D – strong defensive display, showing determination throughout
Alfie T – dangerous going forward and unlucky not to score
Manager’s Reflections (Lewis):"The score line was a true reflection of the performance. Although we tried, we gifted too many opportunities and, as I say week in and week out, at this level you get punished. We’ll pick ourselves up, work hard to improve, and go again next week away at Radcliffe."
